DIY: Hair Pins/Hair Accessories

I usually have a pin in my hair to keep my bangs out of my face. I wanted to jazz up my bobby pins to give me a more done up look. Don't you love the touch of glam JLO's hair clip gives? I do!
I used buttons and loose rhinestones.

For the buttons, I used a dollop of hot glue.

For the loose rhinestones, cut a piece of felt to size to fit the rhinestones on.

Slip the felt in the bobby pin. Glue the rhinestones to the felt and one side of the pin.

 Excited!!

Voila!

DIY: Custom Cell Phone Cover

It's hard to find a cellphone case for a specific phone let alone one you really like. I have been looking for a retro/vintage case for my Blackberry 9360, but I couldn't find one so I made one! I got this idea from Pinterest. All you need is a clear cellphone case, scrapbook paper, and an exacto knife. You can change up your cover and customize it to your taste for 50 cents a piece! I have a Blackberry not an iPhone and it worked the same.

Try it out:

Voila! This reminded me of Vera Bradley's "Cupcakes"  print.

DIY: Chanel Inspired Shoulder Strap

I bought this little guy from the thrift store for $3.00. I loved the color, shape, and compartments. I wasn't going to purchase it because it had a broken shoulder strap and I didn't know how I was going to fix it. An idea came to me and it worked out great.

You will need:
Rotary punch
Pliers
Chains (My shoulder strap length required two chains)
Lobster chain clasps
Ribbon (Optional)
Instructions:
Use measuring tape to determine how long of a strap you want. I wanted mine to be a crossbody bag so about 5ft in length.

Use pliers to link chains together and then unlink the excess.
Use pliers to link the chain to each lobster clasp.
Punch a hole through each side of the purse and attach the lobster clasp.
You can stop here if you like or you can spend the next two hours doing the next step =)
Lace ribbon through the chain to recreate that iconic Chanel purse strap look.
Voila!

Bye-Bye Buyer's Remorse

I think the thrift store is a great place to experiment and try out different prints, materials, and trends. The problem with trends is that they're expensive and short-lived. This almost always leads to buyer's remorse says my velour tracksuit from 2003.

One trend I'm loving is denim button down tops. I've seen them paired with black/white/colored jeans or lace/floral shorts...perfect for the fall and winter or transitioning into spring. I'm still unsure about this trend so I went for a less expensive commitment.

Nordstroms (pictured): $88
Thrifted: $10
Savings: $78

Try a new trend and say bye-bye to buyer's remorse.

DIY Thrifted Clutch Makeover

I found this clutch at a thrift store for $3.99. It was in "like new" condition. It had a nice sleek structure that will never go out of style, but it looked kind of dated because it was so plain. I felt compelled to bejewel it. I'm like a magpie (apparently they like shiny things).

Map out design.

Glue rhinestones/gems with fabric or tacky glue. This process will take awhile...

...Keep adding rhinestones. If you need to get your mind off things, this will do it.

Voila!

From an ugly duckling to a swan. So y'all need to grab your clutch and grab your heels 'cuz it's wedding season out here.

DIY Thrifted Headwrap

Lately, I've been seeing headwraps everywhere. It's perfect for those hot summer days when you want to keep your hair away from your face. You know the feeling when you think something's crawling on you and it turns out to be your hair. Also, it adds a vintage/retro flair to any look.

You can have a similar look for less.
ModCloth Headwrap (Pictured) = $19.99
Thrifted Scarf = $0.99
Savings = $19.00

Instructions:
Start with a thin scarf. Mine was thrifted and cost $0.99. I love the bright pink and orange flowers!

Fold the scarf so it's about an inch and a half wide.

Place the scarf around your head.

Twist once.

Twist again.

Tuck the ends in.

Arrange the sides.

Voila!

I love love the pulled back look for when it's really hot and humid out. But, you can leave your bangs out too. Now you're ready to sit back and sip some lemonade maybe have a tupperware party.
